Reflections on Healing Catalysts:
A big part of what I bring to sessions with a client is my belief that the healing process needs to embody all aspects of the person, not just the physical, but the emotional, mental and spiritual. All are influencers that might be part of the experience that brings a client to see me. Today I would like to talk about the spiritual, as it is a major catalyst in the healing process. I’m not going to introduce religion or ask you to buy into my belief system. An example may be the easiest way to explain.
I had a big change in my life about two years ago. It was a medical event, and it was a big deal (I know every one of you has experienced a ‘big bang’ event in your life too). Physically, there was no arguing with what was going on. It was what it was and I needed to give myself the time and space to heal. Emotionally and mentally, I was able to accept the change because on a spiritual level I believe that everything happens for a reason.
I believe the idea of bringing the spiritual into the healing process can help us all navigate the difficult spots in our lives with more ease and acceptance.
My belief that everything happens for a reason was the spiritual aspect of my healing process. As I reflected on the reasons my ‘event’ might have happened, I came to understand that while my world had been moving along busily with running my healing center, seeing clients and all the personal stuff of husband, household and cats, I was too busy with a lot of doing and very little being. I ate well, exercised, mediated but… not enough hanging out with myself. The universe, I believe, had found a way to bring me back to myself. To force me to take long walks around the lake, to watch the birds in my backyard and to sit with a cat in my lap while reading a book. Coming to an understanding and acceptance of this event on a spiritual level was key to my recovery
